What is the psychological term for someone who does not believe they exist?

Question:
I have a friend who from time to time doesn't believe she exists. Logic doesn't sway her and she realizes it's a non-sensical notion, but she has an unshakable feeling she does not exist. What is the phsychological term for this?

Answers:
It could be a depersonalisation disorder. Or, it could be a nihilistic delusion - Cotard's syndrome. These are definitely not imagined problems, and psychiatric evaulation plus appropriate therapy may be of help. Just don't listen to people saying that your friend has gone nuts or whacko or anything like that - people have a knack for pouring salt on other's wounds.
