insomniac needs help?

I can't see how people can just say "Go take a pill, you'll go to sleep."
Lunesta and other sleeping pills are no different than drinking alcohol to go to sleep. You will eventually become dependent on them to go to sleep every night. I dated this girl for a long time who had to take sleeping pills nightly to fall asleep and when she didn't have them she would flip out.
I don't say that to be rude, I just hate the fact that doctors and people are so quick to prescribe and recommend pills to people that half the time could be solved in better, more long-term ways.
I had insomnia for a long time, where I would sleep only about 2 maybe 4 hours max every night and I ended up having a seizure problem develop from it after a certain time of not sleeping. What I did to really make a change in my life was think relaxing thoughts while I went to sleep, something that is soothing to you and that is comforting to only you. Also, I'm a person that has to have cold air to sleep, I bought a fan to put near the bed to blow on me at night. Certain smells are comforting to the mind and help you sleep quicker and longer.
Lastly, I know you probably won't do this but some even try smoking marijuana to sleep. It's never been one of my things but it helped my dad sleep when he had a sleeping condition too. Like I said, you might not do that but it really does help people.
Good luck to you and remember, if you aren't really into taking pills, try other means first. There are even Chinese Medicines, natural herbs that help your body sleep naturally.
