how long can a person go without REM sleep without suffering mental incompasitatoin?
Question:
Please site sorces.
Answers:
We don't always remember our dreams anyway, and are not usually aware of being in REM sleep. Some drugs block REM sleep, including alcohol and sleeping pills. Sleep apnea, stopping breathing during sleep can interfere with REM sleep. After a long time of REM deprivation we tend to hallucinate, be irritable, depressed.. go into REM at the wrong times. The DT's are related to this.
I suggest that you continue with the sleep experts that you have been seeing.
I'm not finding much on REM deprivation itself, but on sleep deprivation:

Not very long - been there done that. Hallucinations will occur - and you will make bad decisions...possibly life threatening. Go to sleep already!
