Does it make you uneasy when your live is going very well?

Question:
Do you find yourself waiting for the other shoe to fall? This happens to me, so much so that I have trouble enjoying my good fortune.

Answers:
This is definitely a common experience. When things are going well, we often wonder how long it'll take until some "reversal of fortune" occurs. Maybe that's even happened to us before, so it's understandable that we fear it happening again. I suppose that at the heart of things is accepting our lack of control over absolutely everything in our lives. Storms do come along and there are things that we simply can't forsee that have the potential to shift our "ups" to "downs". At those times, it's worth looking back on your ability to weather past difficulties successfully. You are resilient! This helps to build your confidence that you can get through challenging situations that might come along, whatever they might be.

There might also be feelings that the happiness you have now is somehow undeserved, or just "luck" or "chance", and therefore could be taken away just as easily as it seemed to come to you. We all go through that sometimes, but focusing on the potential for loss takes so much away from the wonderfulness of happy occasions, accomplishments, and the general blessings in our lives. We know this (hence your question), but it's difficult to know how to change. Getting to the place of belief that you are deserving of good things in your life, both earned and "unearned", can turn your attention to appreciating your good fortune and passing it on by finding ways to share those benefits with others. By re-directing energy previously devoted to worrying about what might go wrong, you can commit yourself to thorough enjoyment of the things that are going right in your life, a benefit of living in the here and now. Maybe a long-term goal could be treating both the ups and downs as kinds of good fortune in their own right, for the lessons they teach us and the kinds of people that they allow us to become if we can harness the lessons effectively. I know that that's what I'd like to be able to do eventually, though I'm not there yet. Still working on the "here and now" part.

Hope this helps a little.
Not too much. Sometimes when I sit and think about how great my life is, i wonder when something is going to go horribly wrong. But, thats when i sit and think about it, only then do I doubt that things will remain this good.
