Why do people get paranoid?
Question:
Answers:
Paranoid
Paranoid personality disorder is characterized by a distrust of others and a constant suspicion that people around you have sinister motives. People with this disorder tend to have excessive trust in their own knowledge and abilities and usually avoid close relationships with others. They search for hidden meanings in everything and read hostile intentions into the actions of others. They are quick to challenge the loyalties of friends and loved ones and often appear cold and distant to others. They usually shift blame to others and tend to carry long grudges.
Why is it that so many "average" people in the USA are also paranoid?
VHeadline.com commentarist Oscar Heck writes: What is wrong with political (and other) leaders in the USA? Why are they so paranoid? Why is it that so many "average" people in the USA are also paranoid?
The US congress has approved a Connie Mack-sponsored bill/amendment to start a (US government-run) television/radio station aimed at countering Chavez and Telesur, Venezuela's new joint-venture television station which is aimed at providing people throughout Latin America with news and views about Latin American and the world from the point of view of Latin Americans.
CNN in Spanish, the only widely broadcast news and views program I know of - and I think it is the only one which is broadcast throughout (all of) Latin America -- is controlled by the North, the USA. Everyone will agree with me on at least one point: CNN in Spanish's format, approach, its news, its views and its content are clearly North American in nature and its slant is obviously based on the way in which the USA sees and understands life.
However, Latin Americans and North Americans are generally oceans apart in mentality, culture and expression. Apart from the roughly 20% wealthy mid-to-upper class Latin Americans, Latin Americans (in general) have little in common with the USA, with its "values," with its language or with its modus operandi.
If this is the case, which it obviously is, why then would Latin Americans be interested in CNN (or the newly proposed anti-Chavez, US-government-run TV/Radio station)?
The fact is, most Latin Americans are not interested in the likes of CNN. In a general sense, the only Latin Americans who "appreciate" CNN's USA-controlled disinformation are the mostly USA-loving mid-to-upper classes.
This said, what really ticks me off is the fact that the US government is the one which is involved in this new effort to try to control the Latin American airwaves ... in order to hide the truth ... truths such as how the USA-promoted "Free Trade" has brought mass destitution to the Mexican people, mass profits to multi-nationals and massive manufacturing job losses in the USA.
There are many more truths which the US government wants to cover up by controlling the airwaves.
They know that with few exceptions Telesur will be watched throughout all of Latin America by millions of people from the poorer 80% majority while CNN will remain the "news" source for the 20% wealthy minority. The more people watch and listen to Telesur, the more educated they will become with respect to reality. The more educated people become, the less they will allow themselves to be manipulated by the likes of the US government and its local cronies. The less people allow themselves to be controlled by US propaganda, the more they will reject any form of US intervention throughout Latin America.
The US government knows this.
Paranoia is an excessive anxiety or fear concerning one's own well-being which is considered irrational and excessive, perhaps to the point of being a psychosis. This typically includes persecutory beliefs concerning a likely threat, or a belief in a conspiracy theory. In the original Greek, παράνοια (paranoia) means simply madness (para = outside; nous = mind) and it is this use which was traditionally used in psychiatry to describe any delusional state. However, the exact use of the term has changed over time in medicine, and because of this, modern psychiatric usage may vary.
