Answers:
There is interesting research that suggests what i always suspected- that the brain is not "set" in a pattern for life, but can be trained to set new neural pathways based on cognitive behavior work. What this means is that with depressive disorders, we get good at being depressed or manic or whatever. The chemical and physical predispostion is there, but we encourage it by learning to be comfortable with behaviors that encourage or enable it.

That being said, it has been proven that daily meditation and exercise will help you tremendously if you are dealing with these disorders. Activiites such as yoga and karate are very useful. Reaching out to others to learn how they deal/ live with it. If your sleep ccycles are really messed up try sleeping aids and self-hypnosis just long enough to get you back to sleeping again; you can set a new pattern in 5 days to 2 weeks.

Replace soft drinks, coffee, and alcohol with green tea, water, and fruit juices for a while. Keep a mood journal, and learn to be aware of what you are really feeling. Most episodes of depression are triggered by an actual event, no matter how small, if you are really paying attention. Record your dreams, and see if there are messages there. Take care of long-standing small problems that ahve plagued you (I lived with chronic pain and infection from impacted wisdom teeth for 5 years because I thought I could not afford to get them removed).

If you track your moods, and your eating habits and exercise habits, you will soon start to notice what pattern gives you the best results, and you can then mindfully use that a base for preventing or lessening future recurrences. It may never go away completely, but you may learn to get around it quite well. I had to!
I am Bipolar also. One thing you have to watch for is alot of supplements or natural things can mess with your meds you are on. I would sugggest a excerise that you like, yoga helps to because it brings eveing thing together, I have been told kickboxing is good to, anything that you have to use your mind and your body together.
