that med is an anti-psychotic medication. it has lots of side effects. beware weight gain! if you eat too much, your weight will increase quickly under the effect of risperdal. a substitute is haldol, a "first-generation" anti-psychotic that is seldom prescribed but does the same job (and is dirt cheap too).
It's and anti-pshycotic(sp?) There are plenty of alternatives. My son gained 30 lbs on rispiridone. It has been known to cause diabetes.
