Diabetic - Personality changes?

Question:
I'm looking for information that might explain why a family member suddenly got abusive once he developed Diabetes. I know he deliberately keeps his BSL high (against all advice), can this be a explanation?

Answers:
I'm diabetic, when my BSL is consistently high it makes me very tired. This can result in me being very short-tempered etc. When you are worn out, every thing irritates you.

Other Answers:
He is afraid of dying.........just be umore understanding to his needs.
I don't know if you've ever had you sugar drop really fast after consuming more than your body can handle. You get weak, shakey and sick feeling. It's almost the same thing. When you don't feel well, it's hard to be nice sometimes. It has to be difficult for them. I had a diabetic pregnancy but it was temporary so easier to handle mentally that a "rest of your life" thing. I can't imagine someone getting "abusive" but maybe not as nice (??)
He could be afraid of dying... or it could be because his blood sugar is uncontrolled. I'm the opposite, hypoglycemic, and when my blood sugar starts to drop, people around me definitly notice. I get short tempered and passive aggressive, I've thrown things and just acted like a complete fool. The way a person reacts to various situations depends strongly on the person. My boyfriends uncle was the same way, if his blood sugar got too high, he'd get aggressive. I don't think it's particurlarly common, but it's not unheard of by any means.
