Hey, you got a good point there. Maybe because in order to feel good, we need to be feeling mellow.
It's a common side-effect of the antidepressant. It can't be helped. But it's better to be a little tired than to be horribly depressed.
Some anti-depressants have side effects unfortunately. Tiredness can be a side effect, but as your body adjusts to the medication sometimes the tiredness goes away. But if you need the medication, its better to take it and deal with the tiredness. Just tell your doctor if you have any problems.
If you are experiencing tiredness, one way to deal with the side effect is to take the meds at night, before bed. The way they work is based on something like "half life", so it's the amount of the chemicals swirling around in your brain that helps with the overall mood and depression (at least for re-uptake types of drugs such as Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac, etc. the drug names used in US and Europe, I think.) Anyway, so it shouldn't matter about the time of day for effectiveness.

If a person is truly in need of an SSRI drug (Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) or something that increases the reception of dopamine or epinephrine in the brain, then taking some should make them feel NORMAL or at least RELIEVED of the burden of depression, which makes a person feel like a hopeless two-ton sack of lead. A promise of happiness does not come along with the pills. Taking a too-high dosage, or taking it if you don't need a prescription for it, will make you tired. I personally need 20 mg of my anti-depressant, but I have to take it half in the morning and half at night, or I do get drugged sleepy.
