My daughter was just put on Concerta for ADD.....?

Question:
My 6year old was diganosed with ADD when she was 4 , she has been having a lot of trouble at school with paying attention and doing her work so we just put her on Concerta (whick is similar to Ritalin but she only has to take it once a day), which has given her a 100% inprovement. my question is should we tell the teacher about her ADD or her new meds?

Answers:
My biggest concern is "labeling".

Both from without and fro within.

I have know ADD people who use their diagnosis as an excuse to fail.

I have seen school workers treat ADD individuals as if they were "damaged".

I have seen other children be cruel once they know another is on meds.

I'd keep this a secret from everyone.

Even your child.

Personally, I would let the teacher know.

If for some reason, your daughter had a problem in class, your teacher needs the information in order to handle the situation properly.
My son is on the same thing and I told his teachers because if he does have a "bad day" or if he misses his pill they need to know what to expect. Hope I helped.
