The symptoms may be treated with both medication and behavior modification therapy and/or other forms of therapy. BDD is treated psychologically and pharmacologically like OCD. Curable? It's possible.
It's treated by helping the patient identify maladaptive thought patterns that are fostering these beliefs that they have some physical defect. It is long and complicated but it does work. I am not sure that I could define "cured", but BDD is treatable.
