Is there anyone here who will have to take antidepressants for the rest of his/her life?

Question:
I've been depressed for most of my life and I've taken antidepressants at different times. I was actually depression-free without the use of meds for about a year, but it has recently come back with a vengeance. I've begun taking Effexor XR again, and it's helped quite a bit, but I still feel some of the symptoms. However, I hate the idea of having to take medication for the rest of my life in order to maintain any sort of emotional or mental stability. Does anyone have any input?

Answers:
Please do not feel any less off a person trust me I take so many pills and I am 41 so I understand completely Taking these drugs will only make you feel better and keep your natured you might feel like you have no understanding and feel disconnect it will work out in time and soon you wont ever feel any different. So each Day Chin Up and say today will be a great day and every day after that. This is the biggest problem just tell yourself that you are in control and you will make this That awesome All you must do is believe in your self. Best wishes and good luck.
I know exactly how you feel. I have been thinking recently of trying to get off meds and battle my depression with natural remedies, but Im not sure if it will work or if I will be able to stand it. As far as I know I will have to be on medicine for life. Ive been off and on medicine since i was 18.

Ive been thinking about getting some type of psychotherapy along with the use of a light box since I suffer from SAD also. and just trying to exercise a lot and live more healthily
Not me.I would rather be depressed than take
antidepressants.I realize that is a very unpopular view
amongst those in the psychoanalyst feild but I don't care. They doped up my Mother who was schizophrenic most of her life,It didn't help very much.
The truth is,they really don't know the long term side effects of much of these meds,I saw it with my Mother
and they had her on EVERYTHING at one time or another..They couldn't figure it out,so they just drugged her into vegatabledom.

If you can go a year, then you can get over these depressions without the aid of drugs I believe.

Nature is such that depression WILL happen in this life.Try not to think of it as a sickness than can be cured with a pill.
I am much more a believer in behaviorial thearapy when it comes to mild to moderate depression.
That is a more tangible solution because it forces us to confront how our behavior gets us into these modes of
thinking, feeling and acting that can lead you to depression and how we can change them. It's
all about communicating.

One has to ask themselves; What did people do even 50 years ago when they had the blues?
They sure didn't have antidepressants.

I would rather feel the anxiety than mask it with
a neuroinhibitor. If the feelings belong to you, then own them, make friends with the anxiety. The pain can usually be traced to a specific trigger.A therapist
could help you there.

And yes,I have the kind of anxiety that makes you immobile when it hits you.I'm happy to say that in the last 2 years,I have found better ways of dealing with it.
