I don't think anything strange happened to you. It's just something that you are attracted to. People are often attracted to strange things. It's possible that your affectionate feelings towards women who smoke, has to do with an oral fasination or it could be because of the way that smoking is portrayed in the media (as a very sexy thing but, also so bad for you and hey, it being bad for you could be even more sexy to some people) has made you think smoking is sexy.
Fetishes are normal and not a sign that something 'weird' or 'bad' happened to you. The only time you should be concerned about a fetish is if it becomes an unhealthy obsession (you take up smoking) or starts to harm your partner (you ask your partner to smoke pack after pack for your sexual pleasure).
Probably has somthing to do with an association with the whole mouth thing... sexual association etc...
