my daughter has been diagnosed with bi-polar.Is there any alternative medicines she can take?
Question:
Answers:
Bipolar diagnosis is this decade's equivalent to co-dependence in the 80s and ADD in the 90s. It's something that everyone has that becomes a bigger problem the more you fear it.
There are evolutionary reasons for bipolar symptoms. Your best bet is to get some professional help dealing with the underlying causes from someone who is willing to look beyond covering up the problem with medication. Even alternative medicines are a sign that you've given up hope trying to deal with the cause. Chemical imbalances are founded in a deeper problem. The underlying issue can be rooted out when it isn't covered up.

It would be good to find a med that agrees with her the most and that has the least side effects. It's difficult to have this in the family. Very stressful.
Bipolar disorder is caused by a chemical diffenciecy. She will need medications to increase/stabilize the brain chemicals that she is lacking. Talk to her doctor about all possible medications. Also remember that your daughter may have to try a few different medications before finding one (or a combination) that works for her.
well going to a doctor they aren't going to tell her, a therapist and a psychiatrist won't tell her either. this is their business. nothing works for sure, but check out the medication Lithium. I have been on it since 1996 and I have had no problems.
sorry i dont have an anwser but wanted to strongly advise that you get several opinions, that is th new POPULAR diagnoses going around, i was talking to a counselor a while back and because i told her i deep clean when i get really angry, (one symptom) i was diagnosed, and the meds can reek havack on you.
Don't know about the meds but You should know that if she has ANY type of insurance, you need to keep it in force. With that diagnosis she won't get any new coverage issued.
How old is your daughter?
If you are talking about alternative medicines as in herbs or alternative therapies like massage, acupuncture or regular exericse, those things may help, but the most effective control for bi-polar disorder is prescribed medication under the care of a psychiatrist in combination with talk therapy. Alternative therapies can absolutely help in treatment, but should not be used as a substitute for traditional medical treatment. Bi-polar can get very very ugly left untreated.
You may find info. on that at naturalcures.com. Seek different opinions.do your research.
In addition to the regular psychiatric meds she's been subscribed, she can use 1-2 grams of omega 3 every day. There has been some studies on the protectivity of unsaturated fish fats in omega 3 in the late 90's.I guess in Harvard..And some people wth major depression and bipolar disorder seemed to be getting better after a sufficient period of time of omega 3 usage. Why not give it a shot? It's good for the brain cells even though the effectivity on these certain illnesses hasn't been prooved.Use Solgar's Omega 3-700 if you're gonna start and take two capsuls a day.

Bi-polar is a chemical imbalance in the brain.Medication is need to raise the levels to a safe normal level. There are many types of medications for this. Sometimes one may work, and other times a combination of medications will help. You need to take your daughter to a Doctor and allow him/her to evaluate your daughter and prescribe medication. Please keep in mind that not all medication works well for everyone. They may have to try several before they get the correct combination. They also have support groups. Good Luck
