Other Answers:
upbeat, anything else brings me down worse
well, i say. when your depressed be all you can be. get it all out. so, i go waaaaaaay down with my music.ah, well. good times, good times
Upbeat. It may cheer you up.

Downtempo will just encourage you to be unhappy.
You want to elevate your mood, so I go for a song that is loud and fast ("Middle of the Road", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Day Tripper") to get the blood flowing and move you about.
listen to whatever u like, with me, its upbeat. if it is slow, it makes me want to smash my radio to pieces.
UP BEAT MUSIC TRUST ME I SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION AND THATS WHY I AM ON THE COMPUTER, UP BEAT MUSIC GETS YOU MIND INTO A GOOD MOOD. DOWNTEMPO WILL MAKE YOU MORE DEPRESSED.
you may relate more with the down tempo and find it more appealing in respect to your depressed state of mind. You may find upbeat music more appealing in a happy state of mind. To answer your question i would say do something nice for someone else and you will in turn feel better about your self and then go listen to some music. preferably 311.
I find it's better to listen to depressing emo songs or soothing "downtempo," as you put it. Upbeat music, like techno or something, just annoys me. I think, "Why does that singer have a life that's so much better than mine?" and I lapse further into that temporary depression. If it's something actually saddening and serious, listening to some soft music that fits the theme of my emotions will help me to cry and get it all out. If it's just a temporary annoyance, I can listen to "emo" music long enough to start laughing at how pathetic I am for sitting around and listening to emo music. Works most every time.
I always listen to whatever makes me feel good at the time! I mean that's the point, right? - to not feel so depressed afterward.anyway, I don't know if it should be upbeat or downtempo.I just listen to whatever makes me feel good at that particular moment! Hope that helps & good luck.
Upbeat, because if you listen to downtempo it will make you feel worse.
Everyone is different, when I'm down in the dumps I listen to both depending on what I'm down in the dumps about, if I feel like being sad and feel like having a good cry to make me feel better I'll listen to slow kinda sad music and I'll just lay there and cry and wallow in my pity for a while then afterwards I'm fine, but sometimes I don't feel like doing that I just wanna feel better so I'll put on fast music and the tempo and the fast beat just get's me going and makes me feel cheerful..just depends on what you want.and I pray alot and talk to God which always always helps.God bless
Based on my personal experiences, I would suggest upbeat comtemporary Christian music. It works for me every time.
^beat music. It always cheers me ^ ! that's why they call it ^ beat music! ehhh just kidding! listen to some Bubba Sparxxxs Miss New Booty!! that's ^ beat and gets you dancing or try some Beyonce Bootylicious!!
either.but its better to listen to upbeatbecause of how the tempo is made. i cheers u up little by little while ur listening. but down temp express ur feelings so u can have ur feelings felt out. so its either
I listen to downtempo. To get a grip on things and give me time to think. But if it is just something that I want to forget, Led Zepplin does the trick.
Its a individual choice of wat u like wat eva suits u more like a gothic **** can say heavy metal! Get it?
beatles music.
classic music.
sounds of nature
Definately upbeat! Get up and dance or even do some housecleaning or something. If you sit around listening to slow stuff, it will keep you feeling blue. Upbeat music always seems to lift my mood, and I am happy again in no time! Skip the pity party and put on some good dance music. Try "Walking on Sunshine" or "Footloose"!
That depends of how is your personality. You should find music that calms you and make you feel relief. I recommend upbeat music to get your spirit moving and have fun.
It just depends on the type of person u are. When I am feeling depressed I like to listen to downtempo songs, even songs that will make me cry and think about the problem. I find that this helps me to think about it, have a cry and let it all out and then move on. When i start to feel a bit better, thats when I listen to upbeat music.

As i said, it depends on the type of person you are. I cant imagine anything worse then listening to upbeat music when I am feeling down, it just makes me feel even worse and reminds me that I should be happy even though at the time I cant be. Upbeat music really helps me when I am starting to feel better though and really want to perk myself up. Because it reminds me of good times and that makes me feel good!

Thats just my personal opinion though, everyone is different!
i like slow songs when im depressed. lock myself in my room, listen to them, cry my eyes out, wash my face. then sleep.
you wake up and the day is a bit better.
that depends.do you wish to wallow or recover?

nothing like a good wallow, occasionally. I spent an entire October in high school wallowing to Pink FLoyd's The Wall. well, all my spare time, anyway.

other good wallowing music:
Why'd you do it? by Marianne Faithful (if you've been cheated on)
Everybody Knows by Concrete Blonde (for a more general, all purpose, pissed-at the-world, cynical wallow.
I'm Only Happy When it Rains - Garbage (for when you're enjoying wallowing so much you're almost happy about it.)
