Panic attacks just after falling asleep?

Question:
I need to know if anyone has experienced this or knows what it is. I will drift off to sleep, or have just fallen asleep, when I am suddenly hit by the fact of my own mortality, and I realize that someday I am going to die. Grief overwhelms me, and I start screaming, "It's not fair." I wake up sobbing and moaning this phrase, and it takes me a while to come awake, then the sadness sits with me the rest of the evening. Sleep comes again, with difficulty.

Answers:
I'm not sure if sleep anxiety is exactly what you are looking for... it seems like the root of the problem isn't your anxiety or concern over sleep itself, but rather deeper philosophical issues that may creep in when you are tired and relaxed and when your mind is free enough to let them in (i.e. right as you are about to sleep). I have had this often for the past three weeks, and it is very frustrating. Perhaps if you talk to someone about your fears then they won't seem as foreign and impossible to understand. I'm not sure of the answer, because I will probably be startled awake with the same problem tonight, again.
I get that, it's called Sleep Anxiety. I suggest daily meditation and maybe clinical treatment.
