how can i get over social anxiety. It didn't start until I was 19 years old?

Question:
I was fine until I went into the Air Force, then on my first day I got the overwhelming feel of being looked at and of course it was true because I was a new guy in the group of about 60 people, but the feeling never went away. I hate to be noticed wherever I go. I did notice in my medical records that I have hypertyroidism. Is that a reason for my problem?

Answers:
Okay I have social anxiety also. I just remember that most of the people I see now I will probably never see again. Then the people I do see again I hope to make friends with and try to stay on their good side.

I have had social anxiety problems since I was a child and I am just starting to work through it now. We have to remember that everyone is not out to get us and that there are people just like us who are working through it so we can too. Good luck I am there with you.

lack of peace, and all peace exists in God, so thats where you have to go to get it.
Hyperthyroidism isn't necessarily the cause of your social anxiety, but a lot of people with physiologically induced social anxiety disorders have other chemical imbalances as well. You may want to speak with a therapist to learn visualization therapy, relaxation techniques etc.. You can do this, and you can learn to help control it.

I have severe panic disorder :)
I don't think Hyperthyroidism causes social anxiety.I say get to know yourself, appreciate who you are, and don't give a damn what people think of you.Always have confidence in yourself. You are afraid of not being liked or being judged;who is perfect enough to judge you?Be positive.Only you know who you are( people don't know your weakness); and most of all, be all that you can be!
Hyperthyroidism can cause all kinds of problems, including mental. You should be seen by a doctor for it and tell him you're problem with social anxiety. I personally have social anxiety, but not as bad as I used to and I take zoloft and it helps. I was in the army when I started taking it, but had taken other depression medicine prior to the military. I don't know why the social anxiety thing happened, but like you, it occurred later in life. I am 30 and it started around 23.
