Is it possible to be addicted to sleep?

Question:
I understand that excessive sleep can be a symptom of mental problems, but can a person become addicted to sleep? People can be addicted to other activities (being online, working out, shopping) and it is considered an addiction. It disrupts life, isolates fr. family/friends, crave it all the time, deny it to others, etc. just like other additions, yet it is just referrred to as a 'symptom' of depression, or of drinking too much, or taking downers.etc. If a person sleeps all the time, WANTS to sleep all the time, etc. can't it be something other than a symptom?

Answers:
it seems that you're very concerned
i like sleeping a lot and i want to sleep all the time
as i don't have enough sleep sometimes
some people have to sleep for longer hours than others because of different physical makeup.
if a person sleeps all the time, then we have to discover/ know the reason(s) why the person does so.
is it due to physical fatigue? or emotional? or other reason(s)?
if this really bothers the person a lot or affects the person's life, please consult a doctor/ health care professional.

Other Answers:
People in my family use sleep to escape stress. Just like other folks use drugs or TV, shopping, sex or solitare. So i think the answer would be yes. It could also be a symptom of depression. Multiple addictions can exist. I'm sure drinking and shopping can also be symptoms of depression. Remember depression and addiction are just two words people made up to try to describe the complexity of human beings.

No but is possible to be lazy of course there are medical reasons for someons sleeping longer than normal I believe so, my sister sleeps allot (although she's diabetic) she stays with my other sister and lives in her basement, but stays in the bed most of the time, sleep. She's always tired and I think sometimes it's a rare form of depression. I often worry about that so that's a really good question to ask and maybe you should see your doctor if your experience this. Take care and good luck.

I think it is possible. Just like being addicted to food, shopping, appearance, etc. However, I wouldn't think it's all that healthy. Surely there are better things to do with all that precious time? Same goes with any other addiction.

I used to sleep all the time because I was depressed and I wanted everything to go away. It worked for a short time..

I WANT TO BE AN ADDICT LIKE YOU!HOW DID YOU DO THAT?
