Do anitdepressants have side effects or do they realy make u get better...?

Question: Hi friends, okey i have been really stressed for the past few days...few years actually but the past few days i was crying for no reason , felt very empty and alone, i was irritable, angry and sad at the same time, wanted to be left alone, felt exhausted etc..I begun not for the first time to think of killing my self but this time it was for real-i felt that the pain i was feeling was too much.But now i have decided to go see my doctor and get some anti depressants.Do they have side effects? and do i need to take them for the rest of my life once ive started..Thanks

Yes they have side effects - as do most medicines.
Mine made me very sleepy, lost my sex drive and gained 30 pounds. I was more depressed taking them than not....
