Why are US$ greenbacks red and not green?

Question:
It just seems really silly to name them a "greenback" when they are red coloured. Is it because the mexican type people work cheap and they are known as Greenbacks so the american money is named after mexicans?

Answers:
Actually, the ones they use in America are green.
The overseas ones are red.
Funny, isn't it.

Other Answers:
they arent red, i think u r confused
Huh?

Uhhh..I just pulled a couple of $20 bills out of my wallet and they look green enough to me. There's a pink tinge to the newest design of US currency, but they are still mostly green.

And I think the term you're looking for is "Wet backs".
I think you're a bit confused.
"Greenback" refers to the American Dollar, "Wet back" refers to illegal Mexican immigrants.
the new bills have some red in them. improved security most likely.
