Why do I sleepwalk?

Question:
I don't think I have sleep walking problems to the extreme, but I often wake up and I'm standing in the corner of my room freightened to death and sweating, but I don't ever remember why I am in that state. This also happened to me in my college dorm.

Answers:
I know it's a subconscious thing that triggers you to move around during sleep. If you have to pee, you normally wake fully to stumble to the bathroom, do your business and go back to bed. For some reason you're not waking completely, but your nightmares (I'm assuming) scare you so bad that you're body recognizes the urge to get up and flee. It would be a good idea to go to a sleep clinic. Most insurance companies cover it, all you pay is a copay.

My husband use to sleepwalk as a child, and as of the last few months, he only sleepwalks when he's had too much beer. He has enough sense to turn door knobs, & step over the baby gate without hurting himself. BUT, sometimes he doesn't realize what room he's in when he lets loose. Either way it's embarressing to the person sleepwalking and anyone who witnessed it. Maybe counseling will help you remember your dreams and you can take it from there.

Sleep walking is just a condition, their is medication for this problem. You should see a doctor and he/she should be able to tell you how to control this issue.

I use to sleepwalk when I was a child and it stopped until I got married then it only happened a couple of times mainly during a couple of times due to stress. Last year I was placed on a medication Celexa for anxiety and immediatly found myself waking up in different parts of the house sometimes undressed. My husband didn't believe I was sleepwalking until he caught me one night. My doctor placed me on a different medication and it stopped. Well I began to feel better so I stopped taking it and Bingo I had a major accident.I slept walk upstairs and when I came back down to go to bed my husband who was awake watching TV said it was as thought I stepped off the top of the flight of stairs I fell down 13 steps and landed head first on the ceramic tile. I was unconscious and my husband had to call 911.
I ended up in ICU on life support for 9 hours I had to be intubated as my airway began to collapse and I dislocated my shoulder and broke my right wrist. I have looked here on the net and there are tons of reasons why one may sleepwalk, hereditary, stress, anxiety, drugs and alcohol. I am now back on my meds Effexor now and the sleepwalking is getting better but I still have the odd episode. I have been know to sleep walk as well. I would walk into walls. I out grew it though, hope you fine the answers your looking for.
