Pretty weird social anxiety symptom?

Question:
When I'm watching tv and a female suddenly appears on it, I get anxious. I can't breathe normally, and sometimes my body jerks momentarily. But it occurs only when there are people who are watching tv with me and they are close to me enough to see my body jerk or breathe abnormally. I think my anxiety is due to the fact that it embarrasses me that, if I look anxious when looking at females, others may know that I'm sensitive about women because I get shy when talking to a female or because I don't have a gf. I try not to be conscious about it, but it's hard. You may wonder why it's such a big deal, but I just feel like a total loser everytime I'm sure someone found it out. What will help me get out of this? Any piece of advice would be appreciated.

Answers:
Reacting to attractive women is quite normal.especially for a young male. (my assumption)

If this behavior only occurs when others are close by and watching you, then it is probably because you are self conscious about it. You become aware of the twitching which only compounds the problem and makes it worse. Chances are, you aren't being as closely scrutinized as you think.

But if it really bothers you, then the next time it happens, get up and leave the room. Go get a drink or grab a snack. Do whatever it takes to remove yourself from the situation. Regain your composure, then go back when you feel comfortable.
There's nothing weird about it at all. It's just one form of social anxiety.

There's no telling what will "get you out of it", if anything. See a professional counselor. He/she can help.

This forum, however, is an internet bulletin board, not a committee of medical professionals. You're better off seeing real people about this. A combination of theapy and medications is the way the pros treat various behavioural disorders these days, and they're getting a lot of good results.

Good luck,
