Can Prozac make you extremely tired?

Question:

Answers:
ABSOLUTELY!
It raises serotonin, and in some people (like myself) it causes "Serotonin Syndrome" -- making you feel more depressed and totally soggy. Any of the SSRI's can do this: Prozac, Effexor, Paxil, Zoloft are all in this class.

After 3 years of sleeping my life away -- because I was presumably depressed and the doctor kept increaing my dosage of Effexor or Prozac -- a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner had the sense to take me off that drug.and suddenly I was no longer tired!

Good for you for investigating.

Side effects
Common adverse effects include anxiety, which is possibly associated with an interaction of fluoxetine with the pineal gland,[9] in addition to restlessness and insomnia. Weight loss, trembling, weakness, skin rash, anorgasmia, itching, and a decrease in sexual drive, have also been reported. Finally it has been reported to cause subsequent weight gain [1].

Like other SSRIs, an overdose of fluoxetine or combining it with other antidepressants can lead to serotonin syndrome.

Metabolism
Fluoxetine is eliminated very slowly by the body. The half-life of fluoxetine after a single dose is two days and, after multiple dosing, four days. The liver then metabolizes fluoxetine into norfluoxetine, a desmethyl metabolite, which is also a serotonin reuptake inhibitor; norfluoxetine has an even longer half-life, i.e. 8.6 and 9.3 days for single and repeated dosage respectively. These long half-lives may be helpful in those patients with compliance issues, but fluoxetine is most effective when taken daily. Other SSRIs have, by comparison, a very short half-life.

Some professionals feel that it is fluoxetine's long half-life that gives it much of its therapeutic utility, however this has never been proven under rigorous scientific study. Nevertheless, its long half life is also relevant because suddenly discontinuing SSRIs is known to produce both somatic and psychological withdrawal symptoms, a phenomenon known as "SSRI discontinuation syndrome".[10] It is generally accepted that fluoxetine´s withdrawal symptoms are much smoother than with other SSRIs, as the substance takes several days to completely leave the system. Fluoxetine is a potent CYP2D6 inhibitor, which can decrease metabolism of other medications.

Yes
my pharmacist said that it can and its better to take it at night before you go to bed instead of during the day
yes and if you take prozac and realize you made a mistake you can not just stop taking it. i did and i had a mild nightmare every night as a side effect so be carefull and i do not recommend it.
Yes, that is why it is best to take it at night. You'll be at your peak midmorning and the pharmacological effects will hold you throughout the day. Althought it may take awhile for it to build up in your system to a therapeutic level. Watch out for sluggishness if you take it at night.

Seeing as Prozac is a form of flouride, and flouride has been used to paralyze the brains of Jews in WW2 by the Nazis, and in modern day prisons in Russia..yes, this is a possible side effect. SSRI's are dangerous, unsafe, and exist soley because natural SSRI's (like St.John's wort), or serotonin secretagogues like Tryptophan, are not patentable, therefore not profitable enough for greedy drug companies and doctors to promote.
I have slept better than with any other medicine i have taken BUT it doesnt make me sleep all the time!! Just normal sleep really!
