Is there a way to get NYS disability for being mentally disabled?

I have tried to work and end up quitting due to the stress. I haven't worked in about 2 months and really need income. I'm not sure if I qualify. I am seeing a shrink and on meds.

I am not sure what you mean by NYS disability however some people who are Bipolar or have deep depression may quality for Social Security Disibility or SSI. You need to go to your local Social Security office for details. It will take lose to four months before you will find out if you qualify or not so I would ask Dept. of Health and Human Services if you qualify for temporary disibility from the state while you are waiting for you social security to go through. you need to try federally, to get ssi, and it takes a lawyer and about 5 years of constant application to get it. good luck
