How do you fall asleep when you are emotional?

Question:
I'm really exhausted, but right now I'm feeling a lot. Not sure what the exact emotions are. I tried to sleep for about half an hour, but I couldn't. Maybe it's time to quit at this whole living thing.

Answers:
Have a couple of drinks and yank it awhile. You'll sleep like a baby.

Try to put on some soft music and brief!
Sometimes when you want to get away from your thoughts, you really always come back to them no matter what! But all you could do is try to relax and not to think about your problems. Good luck!

DISTRACT YOURSELF QUICK!

What you described happens alot to me also. The best advice I ever received for that and that actually works is to do something to take your mind off of whatever is disturbing you. Watch something funny on TV, read something fun, then when you're feeling a little better, play a cd of your favorite music on low volume as you are lying down, and you'll drift off before you know it. Then after you've gotten some sleep, you'll be better equipped, emotionally, physically and mentally to deal with whatever you're troubled by. And if things get too overwhelming, DISTRACT YOURSELF again, and just deal with whatever it is in SMALL doses, giving yourself plenty of space and time for mental health breaks.

(Watching a couple of episodes of FRIENDS is good, or even some kids shows. Anything fun. Have a stash of fun vids that you can use for the low times. )

(Also, build yourself a support network of at least 3-5 people that you could call at various times of day or night when things get too much. - I can't call my mom in the middle of the night, but I can call her in the daytime, and there's someone else I can call in the middle of the night if I need it.) Sometimes just having that network and distraction stash in place is enough. And sometimes you need to make use of it. The important thing is that it is there when you need it.
Good luck! Better times are coming! Definitely! I used to be chronically suicidal, but over time it HAS gotten better!

Peace, Love and Understanding,
Lara
