Aloha Candy1974,
The side effects of increased appetite and weight gain are the less severe than the other side effects. If the doctor prescribed Remeron he must feel that the effects outweigh the side effects. That may seem moot to you as part of your anxieties include the rapid increase/decrease in weight gain. It does work for anxiety, but you may want to be on top of the fact that you may gain weight. In this case you may want to adjust your diet and and add some exercise routine into your daily activities. A diet low in carbs and fats with moderate proteins and no sugary drinks or alcohol. Even though the side effects are less severe you may still report them to your doctor to have him adjust the dose or change the meds altogether. He is most likely aware of your concerns about weight, but just had to try this med as part of a process of elimination. Part of that process comes from your immediate feedback of any illicit side effects you may be experiencing.
Since our last talk/e-mail I have come across a few bipolar patients who have had radical wieight gains and losses on past meds. One remedy was kinda funny but it seems to work for him. The patient would sit or stand naked in front of a mirror while eating to be aware of his weight and food portions. Another patient left post it notes all over her house, in common areas, to remind her of what she was going through and to help her remain discplined enough to watch her food intake and actions/exercises. They both say that it is easier when manic but harder when depressed. That is understandable. The reason behind this is to get into good habits with the hope that they remain good habits throughout your lifetime. They've had their ups and downs but have been mostly successful at curbing their weight gain and thus their anxietiies due to it. Take things one day at a time and address each problem one at a time as it is too easy to overwhelm yourself with the many anxieties that bipolar can bring on. Good luck to you in your endeavor to get well.

You should talk to your doctor about it if you are uncomfortable taking these medicines; however, please consider that whatever your doctor does is for your own health and benefit.

I don't want to scare you, I was on remeron and gained alot of weight over a 6 month period being on it. But everyone is different and there are other meds out there. Talk with your doctor and ask him to put you on a different kind. If he us unresponsive to this, fire him and look for a new one. yes remeron works for anxiety. but i didnt know that weight gain was one of the side affects of remeron. it didnt make me gain weight. but one medicine that definately makes u gain weight is seroquel .
