I am a recovering addict, can Klonapin ( Clonazepam ) help to stabalize me from further meth use ?

I currently take Paxil CR and it works great, but I find that when I add Clonazepam it settles my mind to a stable level, is it safe for me to take this combination ? How long should I take it for ? Is there a Doc that can answer this question ?

Klonopin is a benzodiazepine, in the same family as Valium and Ativan. Benzos are highly addictive, especially for someone who's already demonstrated a predisposition for addictive behaviors. I say this from the perspective of being someone who is a recovering benzo addict myself. There was a point where I was taking 20 or 30 mg of Klonopin and Ativan a day.

However, in a carefully controlled environment, bezos are sometimes used to control severe withdrawal effects. Benzodiazepines were originally approved by the FDA and marketed as anti-convulsants for control of mild seizures, and they can help control tremors that come with withdrawal. They should only be used under close supervision, such as on an inpatient addiction recovery unit, and dispensed by medical personnel in single doses. That way you're not at risk of getting hooked on something new.

I am not a Doctor, however I can tell you that using an anti-anxiety med is only adding to an already existing addiction. If this med is prescribed to you by your doc then you wouldn't be asking this question. In my opinion you are using the Clonazepam as a substitute for meth.
