Are there any new medications available for treating bipolar II?

Question:
FYI: I am prescribed 300 mg Lamictal, and have been told a newer med used for stabilizing mood swings is Ambilify. I've been on Effexor XR over 7 years and have recently weaned from it under doctor's instruction.

Answers:
hello, abilify is a new medication w/o many side effects like weight gain, ive been on it for quite awhile & things are going well i also take lexipro, i used to be oon effexor but after a while your body builds up a tolerance to meds, so maybe you should try somthing new for the depression & ask your dr. about abilify !! stay away from zeprexa there is a nationwide law suit against the company PEOPLE ARE DYEING FROM IT !! my sister died on zeprexa she was only 25 & it cause mad weight gain, high blood preasure and diabetes talk to your dr. soon there are alternitives !

I will try to give you the right answer. You have been for too long on Effexor(the same as Effectin) and I wonder during that period obviously if you have a Bipolar disorder you might have taken also other medications in order not to let you going from depression to manic state(which is most common). If you was ok with Effexor and you haven't experienced such changes in mood you probably do not suffer from bipolarity at all.Well, the scheme to be maitained and cured a bipolar patient usually includes a suitable antidepressant(if needed) and a mood stabilizer, which is chosen by the psychiatrist and could be Lithium or else. The best treatment now is with Valproic acid, such medication is Depakin and really works fine and stabilizes you within days.Daily dosage vary from 500 to 1000 mg ..Good luck and if you need more info write to me!!

zyprexa is considered the the drug of choice for bipolar disorder
