After recovering from a vicodin addiction, what are the chances of staying off of the drug forever?

Question:
after being clean for a bit over one year my friend went back to using vicodin for a month. He was using for the month just as heavily as he was the last time. It took him 3 years to get to the point of taking 15-20 per day then was clean for a year then went right back up to using that high dosage again but this time it only took a month to get there. I am concerned for his own health(brain damage, digestive tract damage, relationship damage) People who love him don't trust him any more and probably never will again>

Answers:
When someone is addicted and then becomes clean, their addiction does not stop. And when they pick up their addiction it is like they never stopped. In order to stay clean, the person has to stay active in their recovery even years later. Good luck with your friend, I am going through recovery of coke addiction with my boyfriend right now.

That's the sad reality of drug addiction. A lot of drugs destroy the soul, if you will, before they physically kill themselves.

I wish the best to you and your friend. Try to be resilient.

Once an addict always an addict. There is no cure for addiction, just a sort of remission as such. There is a 12 step program available for this issue and drug rehabilitations. Both work wonderfully if you want to quit using, otherwise, the addict will continue to use. Sometimes tuff love is the only choice to show the addict so we don't enable. Best wishes to you
