A good drug to take?

Question:
What is a good drug to take for Bipolar disorder?

Answers:
There are several and they all work in different ways, but get the same result. There are anti-manics like lithium, anti-convluasants like Depakote, atypical anti-psychotics like risperdal, anti-depressants like Zoloft, sleep medicines like Ambien, anti-anxiety medicines like Xanax. However one may need a combination of these medicines for stabilty. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the best therapy technique in treating bipolar because it teaches the patient on how to control their moods and cope with them better. A self-help workbook can also be a benefit.
It can take a long time for one to find the right combination of meds because it took me five years, then again I have rapid cycling bipolar.

Other Answers:
There are different types of bipolar disorders and therefore there are different drugs that are the "best" on an individual basis. It also depends how old the patient is. The best drug though is, not to take drugs alone, but to pursue psychotherapy, as no medicine works without the help of a professional person at your side.

Whatever your doctor recommends. Your doctor will be the only one who knows your history and what other meds you are taking that could interact. If you have been told you for sure have bipolar then you need to question your diet..Ask your doctor if you change your diet will it help your imbalance..Make sure that you can use other methods of education be for drugs..Good luck
