Question on doctor etiquette.?

Question:
I called a psychiatrist and under the new patient extention I said that I just moved here and would like to find someone to continute care I was recieving. The extention said she is accepting new patients and you can have an appt usually within 1-3 days. I left a message on Wed and Thursday and she still hasnt called back. If she does call tomorrow, should I still consider her for a doctor. (I'm on antidepressants and need monitering of meds still and maybe some adjusting).

Answers:
I've worked in a few mental health places, & unfortunalty, this is usually the case. A psychiatrist is usually VERY busy, overbooked & does not always get back to a person as they should. Be sure to check around of other Dr's in your local area as well & call them if this Dr. does not get back to you, but I would try at least 2 more times this week & leave persistant messages. If no go, then call other places, ask around people you met there. Also, your Primary Care Doctor, someone in the area, or your former PCP can call in at least 1 month of your meds for you until you get into to see a new psychiatrist. It's a hard battle, I know, but you will get through this. Good luck:)

Other Answers:
She wants you to get pissed off before she responds to you. Get help from somebody else.

Make more than one call. You need a Dr. I understand cos I'm on meds, too. You can always change Dr.s later if you are not comfortable. Call back and insist on talking to a real live person. If that doesn't work find another Dr. This one doesn't seem too involved with her patients.

If you are waiting for the doctor to call you back that is not what normally happens. You make an appointment with the secretary.

If you are waiting for the secretary to call back dont blame the doctor.

It is the weekend and they usually dont make appointments or return anything but emergency calls on the weekend.

Call them back tomorrow. wait 2 or three days or call again or another dr
