Pain Killers For Depression?

Question:
26 yr old male.

I have been severly unfocused/motivated for about 6 years.
Also have depression and symptoms of Bipolar and/or Manic Depression. I have tried Zolof (sp?) Prozac, and a few other drugs with NO help. Recently I had a subsciption for Vikodin, and ALL MY SYMPTOMS were suddenly erased. I felt focused, motivated, and just happy, and just so you know, I didnt feel "drugged" I felt NORMAL for the first time in 6 years. After my subscription ran out, I feel like crap again.
My question is: Has anyone else had this happen? and Is thier a drug to treat my symptoms that are are similar to the pain killer effect but for depression.

Thank you in advance, Randy

Answers:
Yep.I know exactly what you mean..the best relief I ever felt from my resistant depression was when I was on RX painkillers. Ity's a shame cos I've been on nearly 40 standard drug trials and nothing works for me.from A - Zoloft..I'm trying the Omeg-3 fish oil with nuerobiofeedback. It seems to help but the jury is still out.Lamictil is a good mood stabilizer if you are bi-polar..I can't find an anti-depressant that does not make me worse.

That's a survey you should be taking from your doctor's office.

Vicodin is very addictive. Talk with your doctor and tell him what you have experienced there are lots of drugs to treat your problems. I know it is difficult but finding the right drug is a trial and error thing since we all are different. Good luck and remember Vicodin is one of the most abused drugs in the world. opiates is what you want then.

vicodin
oxy condin
percocet
hydrocondin
heroin

wow thats a new one but interesting.i too suffer similarly but i do get reprieve with paxil. i supose if you werent "drugged then there could be something to it! however your doc may think your just a druggie.vicodin is very addictive so u probably cant get a long term scvript without pain.i dont know of anything like vic. for depression but do your research you may b on 2 sum thing. best of luck make sure the doc knows this they might be treating you for the wrong thing.. ok.. if your using a downer.. then a upper might not be your thing.. make sure you start to walk every day.. you can also try saint johns worts.. it has helped many go off the drugs.. with eating right and exercise it can get better.. all the drugs just make it worst.. i work with a lot of young kids that say are bi polor and they are only 3yrs old and 9 yrs old.. that is sad..

Your symptoms sound more like those of addiction than of depression. Have you used drugs in the past? If the only thing that makes you at easy is a narcotic and you experience withdrawal when you stop then I suggest you see your doctor about detoxification. Needing a narcotic to feel "normal" is not healthy. As for there being a drug to treat your symptoms . yes there is, it's called methadone.

Unfortunately, your symptoms were not erased by Vicodin, merely masked by the euphoria you feel while taking it.

Vicodin is an extremely powerful narcotic for severe pain. It is highly addictive(think crystal meth); there have been a number of cases of Vicodin related deaths, as well as a number of suicides when patients were going through withdrawal.
Your "feeling like crap" is merely your body withdrawing from the drug, nothing else.
Have you been concretely diagnosed with a mental illness? Certain medications work better for certain illnesses. Perhaps seeking the advice of a mental health professional will be able to come up with a good action plan and course of treatment.

Good Luck to you.
