Anti Depressant drugs and therapies anyone?

Question:
What has worked best for you?

Answers:
My family used a therapist for years and I've been on Ritalin, Prozac and Zoloft just recently. As far as I'm concerned ADD is a highly over diagnosed disorder and so I never accepted that, I've always thought that for me it was just social anxiety that lead to depression and I still do. If I had to choose I would stick with non-medicated therapies, but sometimes you have do what you have to do and if you have gone through everything and you still feel like sh*t then you probably do need medication, but I think it should only be as a last resort, too many people run to medications to solve their problems these days and I really don't think it does or we wouldn't still be having them. In the end it comes back to that old saying, to each her own. ;)

well seeing i only saw the therapist twice didn't like him had conflicting summer schedules and im not 18 and my mom has done nothing but i appear better and am for part of the way--

go to a psychiatrist.. then you can start by talking.. but if he/she thinks you need meds they can prescribe it for you..

lexapro, lexapro, lexapro. Takes 2-3 weeks to kick in, but you wont regret it and actually has positve sexual side effects. Wellbutrin works good for me, I call them my "Happy" pills!

Anti depressant drugs helps my mother-in-law for years.

You cannot go by what worked for someone else. Depression is mainly caused by an imbalance of the three neurotransmitter chemicals in your brain, Seratonin, Dopamine, and one other one. A psychiatrist should speak with you, perhaps check your overall health, and slowly try medicine and check your reaction. Many doctors will prescribe medicine, but not all are really qualified in this area.

Most importantly, you are not alone. You know how you feel and think better than anyone else. Do not feel bad about seeking help. Intelligent and deep thinking people, seem to get depressed easier than others, it can be heriditary, permanent, or temporary.

I have fought chronic depression for 8 years, but believe it was building before. Good friends, and seeking help is the only reason that I am still here to help and advise. My personal preference is a D.O (Osteopathic Doctor) as they search for answers in a slightly holistic approach. You can learn a lot on the internet, but be careful because a lot of sites, are really just trying to sell something. Be well.

A couple of years ago I was suffering from a lot of anxiety so my doctor put me on Paxil. Within a few days, I felt like a completely different person. It was amazing how calm and centered I became. i start my therapist in a few weeks. i was on paxil but i had irregular heartbeat, i have been on lorazapam but i think i took it so lomg it stopped working, i have been on risperdal and i went insane on it.currently i am on lithium, xanax, and effexor.and i am nt compltely sure if it is wrking..what have u been on?
