you have to gradually wean yourself off by slowly reducing the dose till you get to nothing for the best results

I was on it for 3 yrs. Islowly decreased the dosage and started on a new med. It took about 10 days
I took the same for back problems. After taking it for 6 months It took almost 3 months to wean off. I went cold turkey. There is some withdrawal when you stop, like flashes/bursts of light in your field of vision, some sudden dizzines (for maybe 20 seconds). Initially you may not sleep so well at night.
Side effects were, weight gain, loss of sexual activity. Lightheadedness for at least one hr after taking the drug everyday
