how are nervous system and mental health related?

Question:

Answers:
Overall this is the reason - our brain works with the nervous system to keep our body functioning. There are many conditions that affect our brains and as a result how we function. They can range from injuries and diseases that create physical problems to chemical imbalances that result in mental health issues.

And this I wrote to help explain how it is that the CNS is related to mental health - the CNS is the brain and spinal cord and in those who have mental health issues - the brain is impaired - which affects everything - our entire bodies - a disease which shows this truly is that of schizophrenia - it effects all of our senses - everything..

First of all - we have different nervous systemt that regulate and control different things - one of which is the mind and the way we think, function, interpret things, move, etc.

The nervous system is divided into a central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The CNS consists of the brain and spinal cord. The PNS consists of all other nerves and neurons that do not lie within the CNS. The large majority of what are commonly called nerves (which are actually axonal processes of nerve cells) are considered to be PNS. The peripheral nervous system is divided into the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system.

The somatic nervous system is responsible for coordinating the body's movements, and also for receiving external stimuli. It is the system that regulates activities that are under conscious control.

The autonomic nervous system is then split into the sympathetic division, parasympathetic division, and enteric division. The sympathetic nervous system responds to impending danger or stress, and is responsible for the increase of one's heartbeat and blood pressure, among other physiological changes, along with the sense of excitement one feels due to the increase of adrenaline in the system. The parasympathetic nervous system, on the other hand, is evident when a person is resting and feels relaxed, and is responsible for such things as the constriction of the pupil, the slowing of the heart, the dilation of the blood vessels, and the stimulation of the digestive and genitourinary systems. The role of the enteric nervous system is to manage every aspect of digestion, from the esophagus to the stomach, small intestine and colon.

The basic functioning of the nervous system depends a lot on tiny cells called neurons. The brain has billions of them, and they have many specialized jobs. For example, sensory neurons take information from the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin to the brain. Motor neurons carry messages away from the brain and back to the rest of the body. All neuronss, however, relay information to each other through a complex electrochemical process, making connections that affect the way we think, learn, move, and behave

The nervous system relays messages between our brains and bodies - some of the parts of the brain - such as the hippocampus, amygdala, etc - are effected in mental disorders - such as schizophrenia while others like depression are caused by a lack of certain neurotransmitters like serotonin or norepinephrine - The CNS helps our brain get messages and then interpret them for our bodies, etc and in people who have damaged parts of their brains, they can't interpret the messages correctly - they hallucinate, their memory centers are affected, they may smell things that are not there - hear things that are not there but believe all of this to be true cause their brain is telling them that it is.
Two sides of the same coin.
