How do you overcome fear of heights?
Question:
Answers:
I believe that the best way to overcome our fears is by facing it, till you get use to it and finally you overpass.
It does not means you have to climb the Empire States, but you can start by trying a roof, free of risks for you.

well do it then u won't be scared any more
Just go and do it, its the best remedy. But take it slow.
The best cure for any fear is to expose yourself to it again and again. Then you will eventually get used to it. Just like when you first get into a hot tub, it is really hot, then you get used to it.
what you need to do is just go
like the Nike commercial says..JUST DO IT
after you do it a few times you will get more accustomed to the heights and it will not bother you as much, and before you know it..it will not bother you at all..
so just go and do it
good luck
confront it. go to a tall building and see thru the window, no risks taken, of course.
i hate snakes, i couldn't see them even on tv. i did my social service in a zoo, and i took one in my hands, it was a good experience (and felt like heaven on my nake)

It worked for me.
dont look dpwn untill at the top
I myself suffer from this unfortunate fear, and can say that it is hard to overcome. I don't think you can completely "kick it", but you can definitively lessen it. I've found that prolonged exposure to frightening heights makes it seem not as big a deal, and by comparison, future situations are not as frightening.
keep going a little higher and a little more higher till you reach your height
bungy jump or go on a roller coaster.after that.u will feel like that u have overcome ur fears by doin something you thought u couldnt do at all.since ur afraid of heights.
I don't know I have always been afraid of widths
You don't it's just mind over matter really I hate heights I just make sure I don't look down if I have to climb high or I take long deep breathes as I go.
Embrace it, and go. As long as you can feel safe, you can overcome the fear, and enjoy yourself.
well, maybe if you tried going with her/him, and find a place that you can feel safer and look around and get used to being up high. i like being up high, so i don't know if this will work, but its worth a try.
Acrophobia, or fear of heights, is considered a phobia because it is usually an irrational fear. You know that standing at a high altitude does not pose a direct threat to your safety, but you are fearful nonetheless. You may want to consult a psychologist for treatment, or you can try to do it on your own. The key is baby steps. Go to places of increasing heights (gradually), and don't leave until your fear/anxiety subsides and you are comfortable. Eventually, you will be able to make it able to stand on the roof of a tall building without hesitation. That's the basic idea of it; let me know if you want more details!
I have this too. When the fear strikes focus on your breathing and don't look down. Once the panic passes ( it will pass) then you can relax a little. Just keep doing this and it will become less of a problem as the day goes on.
It's scary, (I share a fear of hights too) the best way is just to go and do it. Don't do anything really risky. If you can, before you go on the mountain, go into a big building and just look out of the windows( I live in Baltimore, so its "easy" for me.) Take a ride in a cable car at a fair. little steps will help you to lose much fear. And, unless you are ready.don't look down when you are on the trail. The view would probly be great, but you could also"freeze"
have you ever gone to las vegas, nevada? there is a casino/hotel called the stratosphere, if you go up the the observatory deck, and look out, it will eventually calm your nerves about heights. you get to see a lot from up high than you would on the ground. but trust me on this, i was the same way. it just takes time to get over that fear. i have faith in you.
take care
well though a mountain is tall when you climb it don't look down or set your mined on other things
your probably afraid because something bad has happened to you in a higher altitude place. Maybe a relative broke a bone or lost a loved one. You should go and plan something you will really enjoy when you get to the top. Make the trip a fun trip and you will want to get to the top and it will help overcome your fear. its the same effect the vet has on a dog. If something is a bad experiance then you will always fear it. If something is a good experiance, you will want to do it again even if you were afraid of it before. you should just go once and plan the fun thing at the top maybe bring your husband or a good man friend along or girl friend or really good woman friend along..*wink wink* and share a good weekend or day together.
You can't; it's only natural to have a fear of heights. And it's not really the fear of heights, it's usually the fear of falling.
All I can suggest is start small and work your way up and don't listen to people that say don't look down (make sure you look down from time to time and get used to the sensation so your body and mind can learn to deal with it).
If you ever truly overcome your fear of heights; that's when it really gets dangerous because you forget to be cautious.
Good luck.
Jump on an airplane with a window seat!! Then look down and you will realize that you have already conquered the fear already without even trying.
And then the next time you are somewhere you fear, just think of the airplane and say out loud " I've been in higher places seating down!!"
Your fear, i myself find hard to understand. I can only express how i feel when staring over a cliff edge or on a high building, bridge etc. I feel nervous, and my stomach goes in knots but I'm not fearful as such i use these feelings to keep me cautious and aware of the situation I'm in hence a better rate or chance of me surviving as i am aware of my surrounding cos I'm sh*t scared I'll fall.but the adrenaline rush and the sense of achievement are things not to be missed
don't let your fears control you but control your fears and use them to your advantage. for example take a boxer before he enters the ring he as will us all get butterfly's in his stomach he will use these emotions, thanks to his training regime to keep himself on edge and fully aware of what is going on around him if he doesn't he'll get KO
You can't run before you can walk so take it easy and build up your confidence cos if you go for the big time straight away your may do more damage to your confidence try a climbing wall in sports center your attached to ropes so nowt will happen here's a helping start visit this (A UK site): http://www.thebmc.co.uk/indoor/walls/wall.asp)
Be positive if you aren't then the simplest of tasks can seem impossible, you only have yourself to conquer so let yourself believe you can and you will.
The best of luck

Everyone is afraid of heights, although in various degrees.
The way to overcome such fear is to climb heights. Do it with an experienced mountaineer or professional guide. they know how to do safely. I overcame my primal fear years ago, and enjoy mountain climbing for many years.
when you climb above the tree level you fear tends to go away. That is at a height of 40 or 50 feet. It's at the height where trees and cars look like toys.
Mountaineering can be safe, if conduted with knowlege, skill, the right climbing equipment, and safety equipment.
Oh yeah some brandy or a good tranquilizer is advisable for your first experience.
