how do you deal with being claustrophobic?
Question:
Answers:
it ususally helps me to close my eyes when im in a elevator and pretend that the sensation im feeling is me flying. or when i am in hot air i try to get something cold and put it next to my nose to breathe. a good example of this is when you are in the car during the winter and everyone else wants it to be like a kiln in the car i make sure i get a window seat so i can put my head against it and the cold make me a little calmer and the air right by the window is cooler. crowds get to me too especially since im only 5 feet and everyone else seems to be 7 feet tall. i try not to do crowds unless it is somewhere i really want to go and then i have to have something to take my mind if the crowd. like a concert or something. it help that my boyfriend is tall and if it is really bugging me then i just get him to pick me up and i get above the crowd. and i really don't know what i would do in an airplane. . . i've never flown before. i guess i would probably take a motion sickness pill and sleep the whole time.
just don't let this keep you down. the more you worry about it the worse it will get. make yourself get on the plane and when you are on it then do something to take your mind off of it. get a cd player and listen to music with you eyes closed and think you are at a get together with friends or something. find something, anything, to distract you.

you stay home.
Just dont go to places where you'll feel claustrophobic I go to my "happy" place when I get in a situation I do not care for.
I am claustrophobic, what I do is:
- Never Get In a Bus Filled With People
- Wait Till Everybody Gets Out Of The Elevator
- In a small Concert there wasn't anything I could do so I ended up passing out :S
- I don't experience that on planes though.
Well, if you can find someone that will condition you.like a psychologist, then you might just be able to overcome your problems. There was someone in my psychology class that had the same problem with claustrophobia after she lost her kid in a crowd once (panicked and panicked and panicked). So.ask about Pavlov and classical conditioning, go to someone that knows a ton about psychology, and get conditioned to NOT panic in close spaces.
Otherwise.get a hypnotherapist.
