How can one stop using PROZAC?

Question:

Answers:
My first question is why do you want to quit, secondly how long have you been taking Prozac?? You should not quit conld turkey because you can create more problems by that. You should talk with the doctor who prescibed the medication. He will instruct you how to take yourself off this medication. He will have you slowly decrease the dosage to see how you do. You will have to continue to see him during this time to monitor you.

I work in a mental health clinic and have seen people try to stop all at once their medication and them have problems.

Other Answers:
Ask your doctor, because you should not stop cold turkey!

Just stop. It's not addictive. If you need to be on it though, I would discuss an alternative with your doc. Maybe try Paxil go to the farmacy and ask

talk to your doctor, there is a reason why you are on it and they may have an alternate.

I recently stopped using this drug after 15 years. the first week was a little "weepy" but then all is well. good luck. its good to check once in awhile to see if you still need to use it. do not feel badly if you need to return to its use. I thank Prozac for many years of great service. cold turkey works!

Hi zeid,
Please talk to your doctor first. A lot of people have stopped cold turkey with bad side affects so please be safe and talk to your doctor. Good luck: Blueladybug

wean off of it, provided you are certain you will not be needing it. If your concern is taking meds, try St. Johns Wort. Speak to your physician about going off the med. OK. Prozac has a *very* long halflife compared to other antidepressants, meaning that it stays in your body for a while. So, if you stop cold turkey, you might be fine for weeks without feeling withdrawal then it could hit you suddenly so beware!. If you're going to stop this medication, ask your doctor to help you come up with a long taper schedule that will allow the drug to be out of your system.

Definitely taper off. You'll have serious side effects if you just stop taking it.
