What's an effective alternative to psychiatry/psyc.
Question:
I was offered a great job recently, and that finally snapped me out of the anxiety and depression. I fired my psychiatrist, and am now going to go to an alternative mental health doctor who helps people get off psychiatric medications and replace them with herbs and vitamins. I'm excited to see her.
I still feel like there are more answers to how one can preserve conditions in life. I don't think psychiatry/psychology has the answers, at least not for me. I've come to agree with the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) in its opposition to psychiatry: http://www.cchr.org
I've considered Scientology, but am concerned that using their life improvement courses would lead me into a cult. But then how do I improve myself?
Answers:
I am a Scientologist - and we are not a Cult! you would be warmly welcomed into the church - especially with your past history with psychiatry. I have found the Communications course was one of the best experiences of my life. Please don't dismiss us on the negative impact of others trying to eradicate us. I really think you should go to your Local Org. and just have a chat to them. It's not like they will handcuff you to the desk lol..
Good Luck in the future

Dear Sir!
Read the gospel of John (don't let any religious quack guide you, even if they are so-called Xtian)! Repent, ask for forgiveness, seek His guidance in HIS Book and thats IT!

Don't throw money at "pharmaceutical" reps. and cryptic cults, esp. not televangelists, ok?
Let me get this straight. you saw ONE psychiatrist and you are thinking the entire science of psychiatry is bad? Come on now. There are bad practitioners in all fields. Besides that, treatments for all kinds of diseases don't always work for every person. You have to keep on trying to find something that works for you. It doesn't mean that those methods aren't going to work for anyone else or that they are wrong.
The science of psychiatry/psychology are both in their younger stages. That means alternatives to these treatments are even further behind and much less researched.
I personally have suffered from severe suicidal depression and awful anxiety throughout my life. A good therapist and a good psychiatrist have helped me regain control of my life. After trying MANY medications I found one that balanced me out. Trust me, i went through plenty of bad doctors, therapists and side effects from medications. You have been dealing with this for 6 months. I've had symptoms my whole life and have been treated for it for 10 years. I wish you luck, but don't generalize your experience to the entire science or to the entire disease of anxiety. Everyone is wired very differently.
Hi GreenEye,
Sorry to hear you not feeling so good.
I agree sometimes medicine isn't prescribed properly, and it can be hard to find the right psychiastrist for you. However I would not base your experience of one psychiatrist on the whole profession. I cannot offer you a wonder cure i'm afraid. I can inform you of the very real dangers presented by this group, the Church of Scientology. You can find evidence of what I say next in the links found towards the end of this post. The internet has a wealth of information available that you can check up on.
Self-improvement is tough, this is why cults are so successful they appear to offer an easy road out, but in truth they offer you a road to losing your identity in place of the groups you have joined.
Read philosophy books, take up tai-chi, do a martial art, play sport, creat stuff - music, art, words, etc, eat well, etc. Join a community group, or a voluntary or charitable organisation. Talk to your family or friends, do anything but join the Church of Scientology. I have a lot of knowledge for my own reasons of this particular organisation, and I urge you to do a lot of reading on the subject on both sides of the argument before you part with any time or money.
I hope for yoursake the alt. medicine isn't Narconon, it could be very dangerous to your health, and is actually not backed up by any scientific community at all just like diantetics.
Scientology is a cult you are right to be concerned.
CCHR is a front group for scientology in order to make them seem better than they are and therefore to gain adherents. They themselves are quilty of human rights abuses. http://www.lisamcpherson.org
Its founder L Ron Hubbard didn't have the learning or knowledge to make any assessment on Psychiatry or indeed to come up with workable methods.
The methods he did come up with trap a person into the social control of the group by disarming a persons normal mechanisms for making reasoned independant judgements. If you were to pick up any social or mind control book you would find things just like the scientology courses, communication drills & training trills are just the start of breaking down you defences till you accept and bend to the cults 'group-think'.
I recommond reading Steve Hassan's book "Releasing the bonds". This is a book about cults in general, you can see if you think the practices of scientology are 'cult-like'.
