Is There A hypochondriacs anonymous? I seriously Need To Chat With A Doctor?

Question:
I have unexplained symptoms that worry me so much that I cannot concentrate on anything other than looking up my symptoms and trying to find out what is wrong with me.I have a pulse in my ears that has been told to me by an ent that its benign in nature,it was caused by weight loss.I have a murmur that I can hear all the time that scares me although I have been told it was nothing by a doctor.I worry when my pulse is too low and worry when it goes up a little.I worry when my chest hurts or neck or head.My whole day is spent worrying from waking ,hearing the first pulsing of the day in my ears to the final pulsing at night.I continuously worry about my heart. Two doctors have assured me that im ok but I have to live with the sound in my ears all the time to constantly remind me that i could in fact be ill.Its enough to make you nuts.Right now im sick to my stomach because im so nervous.I feel like I can't concentrate on nothing but looking symptoms up.Help someone its miserable!

Answers:
I don't think you're nuts - not yet anyway. The key is to concentrate on other things.., a book you read, or better yet, read a book when you start zeroing in on these symptoms. Listen to songs on the radio, watch Tv - get out in the yard and do some work, excercise., do something, anything, to keep your attention off yourself.

Sometimes even non hypochondriacs can start hearing or feeling weird heart rhythms, pulsing in their body parts, etc., we just do not focus on them any longer than to say.., "wow. Thats weird" them move on to something else.

I do not know of nor have I heard of support groups for such a problem. I could be wrong but such a group would tend to cause the members to feed off each others imagined aberrations. Im not being mean here.., I promise.
Try speaking with a qualified psychologist or community counsellor. Ask your doctor for a referal.
This is a very good blog, a beginner’s guide to abnormal psychology.
