I Once worked for a Company who had a customer who cut her fingers off, she seemed to get a kick out of it, each time She came into the office to make a payment she had one less finger and she was proud of it and would tell everyone she gets a kick out of cutting her fingers off.
Eventually she had no fingers left and stopped coming to the office to pay her bill, someone else came to pay it, I can only imagine what other parts of her anatomy she began cutting off after that, even if she were able to handle a knife without any fingers at all.
Self mutilation is definatly not normal and anyone doing it should seek professional treatment.
