airlines and self harmers?
Question:
It's a silly Q i know but its just something that has beern worrying me,
Please help..
Answers:
self harmers are very unlikely to hurt someone else - by stopping them from travelling you are infringing their human rights as they are unlikely to be a threat.
Self harmers hurth themselves by feeling alienated by society, by publicically alienating them you are making them worse, not treating the root problem.
Other Answers:
no because they wouldnt have to know about it
I don't know the answer but in a forum filled with generally mindless twaddle it is not a silly question.
Yes. If they feel that any passenger attempting to board their flight poses a significant threat to their crew/aircraft/other passengers they would be remiss in allowing such a person to board their plane.
i don't think so they don't usually ask questions about your mental health only that you have to state if you have a serious medical condition or a problem that may endanger others..
It would be very difficult to identify a self harmer in advance and very unlikely they would be diagnosed as such sufficient to have to declare a medical condition that is incompatible with air travel.
Should their actions on a plane cause a danger and/or distress to passengers they are likely to be prosecuted as anyone else would which could lead to a flight ban (but only after they have actually committed an "offence" not because they potentially might).
How would the airline know who had mental problems? They don't ask that question when you book! And yes, it is a silly question. 'Unstable' people fly on planes everyday I'm afraid, dear.
Okay now you've got ME worried..
What if they decided that the best form of self harm involved seizing control of the plane and sending it hurtling toward the ground...
Unlikely? - yes
Impossible?...
Just hide it. I imagine you should be ok. I was wearing a jacket and they made me take it off to go through the metal detector. I had a bunch of fresh cuts on my arms. I tried to hide them of course, if someone noticed, they didn't say anything. Most ppl won't know what it is,anyways, so I wouldn't worry. Just wear a long sleeve shirt/pants.whatever. It should be fine ;)
The airline doesn't have to know that you are a self harmer, and even if they did know they still couldn't do anything about it. Millions of people travel everyday, and there are lots of people who suffer from varying illnesses both physical and mental. Don't worry hun- you'll be fine! Also- this wasn't a silly question =) Hope this helps!
