I know teenagers with depression. It's an ageless problem
depression can set in alot earlier than 21..
Dum, dum, dum! Uh-oh!
Because you are probably out in the real world now with real problems. Stinks doesn't it? Wish you the best.
It doesn't set in at 21, yours maybe. Mine started when I was little. I can't say I remember not being. You are getting an ulcer because when you are depressed you forget to eat and it messes up your stomach.
Because that is when real life starts and you can no longer rely on the fall backs of a kid because now you have to stand on your own. There is a lot now that you can loose. Life’s a b@#$h. Isn’t it
Because being an adult can be a drag. But once you get the hang of it and do all the things that need to be done, then it's lots of fun. Life is good.
Are you sure it's depression. Maybe you're just frustrated that some things are going your way. You need to talk to a counsellor about all your stuff your struggling with so you don't feel alone. Hang in there things can get better. Do you attend a church at all?
Your ulcer is most likely caused by stress. Depression can either be hormonal or environmental or genetic. Either way there are alternatives to prescription meds. Talk to the staff at your local health food store for options such as St. Johns wort, Omega 3 fatty acids etc. Good idea to get a proper diagnosis for depression. Good luck
I know young kids with depression, and i know 90-year olds who are depressed. You will eventually come out of it--start exercising, going out fun places with friends, and taking a vacation. It all goes away if you just relax and find some time to have fun!
Is there anything specific that you can pinpoint your unhappiness to? Is there something that you dread doing every day? If so, find a way to change that. Is your major in college something you don't enjoy? Are you in a bad relationship? Sometimes, there's something in your life that's upsetting you--it might not be depression. If you can't think of a certain thing that could be the problem, talk to a therapist. And, for something that will help anytime your feeling down, watch a rerun of "Friends" or some other sitcom. It'll make you laugh, I promise.
Depression doesn't only affect 21 year olds. It hits all, young and old a like. Sometimes its the events going on in your life, and sometimes it tends to run in families. Whatever the reason, you are not alone. Do not be afraid to seek help. Help is there. Sometimes we just need to ask those around us. Family and friends can maybe help lift some off your problems. Good Luck!!
You weren't prepared for real life. Those who realize exactly what they're up against, and what reality is compared to all the fantasy, romanticism and ideology tend to get depressed. I've been off and on meds. . had anxiety attacks at the age of 20. I know what you're going through. I'm now at a point in my life where, if ever, NOW I should be depressed! You know what? I'm the best I've ever been mentally and emotionally. Why? Jesus! I've realized that I can't control my life, and that I don't have to. I've realized that all my attempts to make things the way I want them only make me miserable and mess up my life. Jesus has it all under control, if I just take my hands off the wheel. I'm a single mother, and I've been living $400.00 a month short of what I need just to make ends meet for the past 6 months. Thanks to God alone, I haven't paid one single bill late! I've had everything I need for myself and my kids! I'm telling you, Jesus IS the answer! Life is so hard. Don't go it alone.
There's a lot of reasons. Some are as simple as a chemical imbalance. Which certain meds can help. But you would need to see a doctor. And actually, you can have depression at any age. I've had it a long time. I'm 28 now. Also, seeking counseling can help too.
As most people have mentioned, depression isn't really much of an age issue. Depression can show up anywhere from early childhood/adolescence through old age.all with different symptoms. Depression can either be situationally based (i.e. stress, blues, etc.) or biologically based as a result of neurotransmitters in the brain. Situationally based depression can result from long-standing, unresolved stressors (financial problems, family problems, medical problems, etc.) or from a more acute stressor such as a major life change (graduating college, first professional job, new baby, etc.). Everyone goes through periods of situationally based depression. It usually resolves itself as the situation resolves. If you're feeling stressed out and depressed to the point of getting ulcers, it may be worthwhile for you to talk with a therapist about what's going on in your life. It might be helpful to have an objective opinion to help you figure out the best course of action for dealing with your stressors. If you're a college student, you can most likely access these services through your on-campus counseling or health center. If you're not a student and have health insurance, contact your insurance company and ask for referrals to providers in your area. If you're none of the above and have no insurance, most counties will have a community mental health center that can work with you on a sliding-scale fee basis. Have you ever wondered about the reason of our existence? Have you ever wondered why we die, and where we go after death? What will happen to us in the end? Have you ever asked yourself why God made the earth and all that is in it under man’s dominion? Why were the night and the day, and the sun and the moon created? What are we supposed to do during our lifetime? Were we created just to eat, drink, and enjoy ourselves before we die? As one poet put it:
“I do not know whence I have come.
I saw my feet walking on the road.
As they please I go and stop.
What am I doing here?
How did the road find me?
I do not know! I do not know! I do not know! ”
God has emphasized in many verses of the Qur’an that He did not create us without purpose. He said: “What! Do you think that I created you simply in jest? And that you would not be returned to Me?” (23:115) He also said: “What! Does man think that he will be left to roam at his will?” (75:36) In addition, He said: “Do people think that they will be left to say: “We believe,” and they will not be held accountable?” (29:2)
Indeed, God Has created human beings for a purpose and with a purpose: TO WORSHIP HIM ALONE (Monotheism). He said: “I have not created the Jinn and humankind except only to worship Me. I don't require provision or feeding from them. Surely Allah is the All-provider, the Possessor of all strength, the Firm.” (51:56-58) In fact, all prophets told their people to worship God alone (Monotheism) and shun worshipping His creation (Paganism). God said: “I assuredly sent among every people a messenger with the command: Worship Allah and avoid worshipping false gods.” (16:36)
Prophet Abraham, for example, believed in One God, who had no partner. Anyone who holds a different understanding of God than this has contradicted the religion of Abraham and follows falsehood. God says in the Qur’an: “Those who reject the religion of Abraham make fools of themselves.” (2:130)
Prophet Jesus was reported in the Gospels to have said: “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only’.” (Luke 4:8)
Prophet Jacob also said (in the Qur'an) to his people: “Indeed, those which you worship besides Allah are only names that you and your forefathers have established, for which Allah has sent down no authority. The command belongs only to Allah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him. That is the right religion, but most people do not understand.” (12:40)

Real happiness and peace can be ONLY found in submitting to the commands of the Creator and the Sustainer of this world. God has said in the Qur’an: (Truly, in remembering God do hearts find rest.)
(Qur’an, 13:28)
On the other hand, the one who turns away from the Qur’an will have a life of hardship in this world. God has said:
(But whoever turns away from the Qur’an, he will have a hard life, and We will raise him up blind on the Day of Judgment.) (Qur’an, 20:124)
This may explain why some people commit suicide while they enjoy the material comfort money can buy. For example, look at Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam), formerly a famous pop singer who used to earn sometimes more than $150,000 a night. After he converted to Islam, he found true happiness and peace, which he had not found in material success.
