Can OCD be a feature of Bipolar Disease?

Question:

Answers:
I'm sure it can. Remember, these "diagnoses" should be taken with a grain of salt. They are really only generalized names for groups of symptoms that a majority of patients may or may not suffer. Each one of us is diggerent, so pigeonholoing people inot one diagnosis or another is only useful in a general way.

For example, I have been diagnosed with bipolar, but now it's just good old fashioned depression. I also suffered from alcoholism. Additionally, I had major anxiety. All these added together seemed to mimic bipolar disorder. Now that I've stopped drinking, my life is much more stable. I do have manic tendencies, but they are minimal as long as I don't drink. I take Zoloft which is supposed to help with depression, anxiety, and obsessive thoughts. So far so good.

I was in a support group, and when I mentioned that I had anxiety, another member of the group told me, "O, you can't have anxiety, since you have depression." That's totally FALSE. Just because a doctor hasn't DIAGNOSED me with anxiety disorder doesn't mean I don't suffer from it from time to time. Our diagnoses are not like viruses of other diseases which can be readily identified by looking in a microscope.

It bothers me how some people can become so accepting of what their doctor tells them, that they cannot think outside the box. O well, that's not my problem.

So I don't really care what some doctor CALLS my diagnosis. It really doesn't matter, as long as I get well.
