Why am I STILL doing this?

Question:
I'm taking 75mg Effexor, 50mg Topamax, and 1mg of Risperdal per day and I still smash my head in the ground at least once a week. I'm addicted to doing it and it makes me feel better after fighting with my husband. But shouldn't I be stopping this by now?

Answers:
Guess what, NO medicine can take away the problem. You can only be calmed down, relaxed, whatever, but it does not get rid of the situation that caused you to get on medication if that situation is outside of yourself (such as marital problems). I know, they tried to give me anti-depressants when I was married, but the problem was that he was abusive and an addict, and nothing they did for ME could change what was causing the problems I was having - because they were actually HIS problems that I was being affected by. I personally would bang my head against the wall. I'm no longer married, and haven't been on drugs for years, I'm not saying that's the problem, but you need to talk to your doctor or therapist to get to the root cause.

Don't talk to us about it, talk to your shrink.
Sounds like you probably need to be in individual counseling. THe meds simply arent enough and typically, your psychaitrist will just push the pills, which offers some help but neglects the client of the counseling they need. If your counselor isnt helping you, move on to another one that will. Get the help you need.
It might be that your meds are either not working or giving you bad side effects. I'm only 20, but I know that communication is key to any relationship. If your man is making you hit your head, then tell him. I would tell your doctor, too. Good luck and all my prayers.
How long have you been on the meds? If you are not finding relief I suggest you contact your doctor. The meds may not be right for you. There are many, many meds out there. One will be right for you. Don't give up. But do talk over your problems with a doctor.
