I believe it's just a mental opinion. Coffee has never really kept me awake.

coffee has caffine in it, and Caffine is a drug ( a stimulant) and much like other stimulants, it keeps you away and makes you jittery. Which is reeally the sole purpose of coffee.
But in my opinion, the effect of coffee is just a mental thing
whenever i drink it usually just makes me sleepier than help me stay awake.
Coffee contains caffine which helps you stay awake. But overdrinking coffee is not advised. In fact an apple does a better job keeping you awake

I think it depends on the person. If you're not used to caffeine, coffee can really make you nervous. The experts say that it's better to drink coffee over a period of time, rather than a bunch all at once, to keep your energy up. And yes, it is supposed to improve your concentration.
It can be in effect for a while depening on the coffee. Its the caffeine inside the coffee (if its caffinated) that makes you hyper. It gives your body a jolt for a few hours then can cause a crash. Basically a sugar high. It really doesn't help concentration. If you aren't used to drinking it don't before studying, you won't be able to study (if you are me) It makes the body jumpy and pumps the cells awake.
Coffee does help wake you up unless it is decaffeinated. The caffeine in one cup of coffee, can help keep you awake for about four hours. Once the caffeine leaves you, you might "crash" or get sleepy. If you drink too much coffee or any drink with caffeine it can make you anxious and jittery. If that happens it can be a distraction and not help you concentrate when studying. Caffeine is also a diuretic, so it will make you pee. Like I said caffeine can make you anxious and jittery which may lead to nervousness. That's about all I remember, lol.

It helps a lot of people get going in the morning. It has caffeine which is a stimulant and most people will get a boost for awhile. they say it takes 3 hrs. for you to feel the effects, but I think it varies depending on your individual metabalism. With it comes some clarity and makes you jittery if you drink too much and with highs there is a low that comes when it wears down. Many studies have been done and some say a cup a day is good for your sex drive but every year or so the studies vary.
The bottom line is that it is ok in moderation.Caffeine can be bad in excess and can be an addicting stimulant that may send some into withdrawel without it.
Coffee has caffeine, a natural chemical found in coffee beans that acts as a stimulant. Coffee is also a dioretic, which means it robs your body of water.
How long does the effect of caffeine last? That's a hard question! If you drank a huge cup of coffee on an empty stomach chances are you're not only going to be AWAKE but you'll be fidgety, nervous and shaky. The symptoms will be worse if you are not a habitual coffee drinker. Coffee has been known to be still in the body 8 hours after you drank it. Some people also have heart palpitations from drinking too much coffee. that's when you feel your heart 'skip a beat'.
When the effects of caffeine wear off, the 'withdrawal' symptoms can be sudden fatigue and extreme thirst.
Any more than 3 cups a day is generally said to be harmful. One cup a day is enough, and you shouldn't drink coffee after 12:00 noon.
Caffeine is a DRUG. It's addictive. Use with caution and only in moderation!
As for studying. it will help you stay awake the night before if you need to cram (not that I have experience or anything.) but be prepared to feel AWFUL when the rush is over and you are done your test/exam. As for concentration, I don't think it helps but I'm not sure on that one.
In short: DRINK WATER INSTEAD!
Coffee keep's me going, i couldn't live without it. Yes, you might say i'm addicted.
