I think i have depression. What should I do ?

Question:
I haven't done anything "fun" for a few months. I am trying to take as many classes as I can to keep my mind busy, or I am just trying to stay in my room as much as possible. I don't even want to have any type of social life anymore (and I used to be the opposite). Sleeping more than 5 hours is a miracle for me, and I have lost my appetite for a few days, I can't focus anymore. and that's just the beginning of the list. Do yall think I should go to the doctor? If he's giving me any type of medicine. is that going to make any type of difference?

Answers:
yes of course you should see a doctor, but don't automatically assume that it is depression. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain which can be treated with exercise, diet, therapy, and some medications. Only a doctor can diagnose it. You may have something else going on medically, or maybe there have been changes in your life that you don't know how to handle. Whatever it is, there is help available. You need to contact a health care professional, but most importantly, you need to decide whether or not you want to continue to be miserable. No one can help you if you are not willing to change and go to any lengths. Some people can't live any other way. Abraham Lincoln said it best "Most people are as happy as they make up their minds to be."

You might consider seeing a doctor. The doctor may be able to perscribe you to antidepressents.

yeah, I would see a psychologist. Yes, you should visit a doctor. MD and a Psychologist. It could be caused by a chemical imbalance of some sort, or a problem in your life. If it has been few months or longer and it hasn't changed, it requires professional attention.

By the way, don't be too quick to accept medications. All medications have side effects, and many psych medications have dependency issues. Psychologist will try to help you without medications.

personally, I've always found that medicating yourself becuase of your emotions was silly, but some people need it. I don't find anything wrong with depression personally, I go in and out of it all the time(my mom is bipolar so that might have something to do with it). But of course, if it bothers you, then by all means, go to a doctor and talk to him about it. He can help you determine whats going on and what you want to do about it. well u should proble go 2 da doctor and u proble got deps and they got pills 4 dat my friend takes them he calls them hes happy pills

Antidepressants could help you feel better but also look for a counselor you could talk to you, to find out why you feel sad. Keeping your mind busy & taking classes is an excellent thing to do.

yes, you should make an appointment to see your doctor. be honest with him/her. medications, like SSRIs, can e very helpful to you. call first thing tomorrow morning! in the mean time, try getting exercise, maybe consuming less caffeine, eat a balanced diet, call a friend. Hang in there. and maybe take fewer classes and have more of "a life" -- life is better that way!

u should see a doctor. he/she might give u meds but it will take time for them to work in ur body and to even find the right ones for u. don't go without seeing a dr about this. depression isn't something u just have to live with. u can control it with meds. it's also to painfull for u to try to live with without meds. plz see a dr. I am someone who has had depression all my life. THe only thing that helps is getting to the Doctor and getting on a treatment program. Yes, the medications do work. Be patient though, it sometimes takes a while to get the type and doseage right.but it's really worth it to have your life back.

I'm surprised you're taking all those classes. Stop them if you start feeling overwhelmed. I have to focus on only one thing (like a project or class) at a time. Too much on my plate makes me more depressed and withdraw.
