how do you try to remain positive when your in a negative environment all the time?

Answers:
Try to find better places to hang out and meet new people. I don't know how old you are, but try to get a job that's not too far away, but far enough so it's in a better neighborhood. Save your money, and then move out of dodge, for your mental health's sake. I'd say that's a plan. I know easier said then done. Try to do little things that might improve your self esteem: clean your room, get organized, make that phone call you've been wanting to make, give your mom a hug -tell her you love her, maybe get a pet, keep a list of goals for yourself. Lastly, always believe there is hope for you and it will get better. Everything will be O.K.

my friend... being positive is only a state of mind. So feed your mind with positive things .. like.. read good books, have a relegious fellowship, have a good set of friends, listen to soft music, etc... Take life one at a time... don't hurry up.. !!
While you're in the process of looking for a better place to live, try to get away from this environment as much as you can when you'r not working. Go out to a park, out with friends or family, join a club, a church group, go to the library or something like that.
What I think is great is that you want to stay positive, which means that you have a lot of positive aspects in you already. You don't want to be dragged down, so this is a good thing. It's understandable that you feel down about this at times, but just try to keep nurturing the things that are positive in your life.
At home you can do this by reading, writing letters or emails to friends, watching movies or favorite tv shows, listening to your favorite music or anything that feels uplifting to you. Just keep that part in you alive and well and you've won the battle!
I hope you can find a good neighborhood to live in soon and I wish you all the best.
Constantly tell yourself that you will not let their issues become your issues. And go on about your business. Pray them and pray for yourself.
