Should I take Lexapro before public speaking?

Question:
Never taken it before, was told by one person it would make me feel weird if I take it for the first time, but someone else said it will make me calm and anxiety free so I can do my presentation.

Answers:
Lexapro is an antidepressant and it doesnt take effect immediately, takes approximately two weeks to level out a persons serotonin. So, no it wont help you in any way.
no
it needs to be taken over a period of time for the best effects
Lexapro is a type of pill that needs to be taken for at least 2 weeks to feel any affect so taking the day of a public speaking event isn't going to do anything for you.
LEXAPRO IS A MEDICATION THAT HAS TO BE TAKEN EVERYDAY,AND IT DOESNT EVAN START TO WORK FOR A FEW WEEKS,ITS NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU TAKE TO HELP YOU RIGHT WHEN YOU NEED IT.ALTHOUGH THERE ARE MEDICATIONS LIKE THAT.IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT NEED SOMETHING LIKE THAT TALK TO A DOCTOR.
Whoa. You have been seriously mis-informed! Lexapro is not a pill you just take as needed! It's an anti-deppressant and if you're not depressed DON'T TAKE IT! Also you need a doctor's prescription. It's dangerous to bum one from a friend or buy them off the street. An anti-anxiety pill might help but those are generally used for more serious issues than public speak. Learn some relaxation techniques or something. Don't resort to pills for a "quick fix".
Definitely not! I started taking Lexapro for major depression, approx 4 weeks had passed before I could even step outside my home, let alone public speaking.

Please ensure you have sought proper medical advice before using this medication.
You should never take any medicine unless it is prescribed. And then, all most all medicines have some kind of side effect. Perhaps one of the most common is nausea. It is even a side effect of anti-nausea meds.

So first type in Lexapro in Yahoo Answers and see what you could be getting into. Please note, some do not have the unwanted effect the first time they take a med. Some have it the second time or after a threshold level that only your body knows.

Add stress to the mix and you could possibly get a paradoxal effect. I have given injections (of a med different than above) that would have knocked out a 250 lb man. It made 120 pound little eldery people even more hyper. I guess you could say they were wired for 220 for a time even though both were in their 70's.

OK, I’ll get off my soap box.

We are only born with two fears, falling and loud noises. Everything else is learned. If you learned or let’s say your brain (a computer) was programmed to be afraid when in front of an audience, then you can deprogram it. More likely it is a viral infection of your greyware.

There are a number of ways to deal with greyware viral infections. The medicine you mentioned and many others will only work like a patch. It doesn’t eliminate the problem.

To best deal with the problem, make sure and give your greyware the food it needs for optimum performance.

Vitamins include a multi vitamin and especially a B complex. Better yet, eat the foods that have the same vitamins in them.

If you still want to do drugs, then do a little chocolate. Dark semisweet is the best. Whether it works for you or not, you can enjoy finding out. Not a lot of bad side effects if taken in moderation. It is totally legal and you can do it socially or in private. It can be addictive to some however.

There are many other biological ways to help deal with stress.

There are also some psychological ways to deal with it too. Many find Eye Movement Integration works for them.

The best of all is perhaps preparation.

Wishing the best on your stress management and what will most likely be a great speech.

to your success I remain,
