If each person is unique with their own personality and character, what makes a person have a disorder?

Question:
For example, if I like to clean but be very proper about it, to others it may not be the norm and therefore others might classify me as having a OCD disorder. If others like to procrastinate more than others does and I don't like to, does that mean that person have some sort of disorder?

Answers:
Yes, everyone is unique, and calling some characteristics a "disorder" seems subjective in nature, but in looking at a large population of people, we get a sense of what is "typical" behavior. For instance, people who are obsessed with recurring and persistant thoughts that are unwanted and cause anxiety or stress may be called "obsessive-compulsive." When these actions interfere with one's normal routines, functioning, relationships, and activities, then there may be cause to seek help from a psychiatrist.

Other Answers:
An OCD is doing something or behaving in a way that is excessive. If you just like things neat and in their place, that's fine.but if you start obsessing over little things in dissaray and freaking out over a speck of dirt then you have a problem. Most amaricans are lazy by choice. We tend to procrastinate and then rush. It's the atitude of a self indulgent society. As long as your behavior seems normal to you, you shouldn't worry about it. You have to hang with people who like the way you are.
